Alaska
These are my photos from the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) major excursion to arctic Alaska in June 2006. The trip was led by Stacia Zukroff, and I had the opportunity to come along as co-leader.
After flying into Fairbanks and exploring the vicinity, we travelled north to our main destination: the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in the very northeast corner of Alaska. There, we split into two groups for a weeklong backpacking trip. So the photos you see here are from the perspective of my group, Stacia went a slightly different route with her group.
The local outfitter who supported the backpack was Arctic Wild. They provided us with two excellent guides: Dori McDannold and Bill Mohrwinkel. The pilot for our flights into the refuge was Dirk Nickisch of Coyote Air.
